treatment

at taylored foot solutions, we really do tailor your foot solution…

A specialist Podiatry Clinic providing a different approach to treating foot pain, structural and alignment problems. We provide lasting physiological results by  using a hands on approach, without the use of orthotics, drugs or surgery.

As every person is unique, our treatment approach is tailored to you, by identifying the root cause of your symptoms and concerns. A single therapy or combination of therapies may be recommended as a treatment and management plan. Treating the cause is just as important as treating foot and leg pain, and may involve more than  one approach.

foot mobilisation therapy

Foot Mobilisation Therapy (FMT) comes from manipulative therapy. FMT is a gentle hands on treatment that aims to improve foot and leg function. It targets the foot and ankle joints that are out of alignment, stiff and dysfunctional, and aims to restore the way they are intended to work.

This is achieved with a series of treatment sessions, where the joints are mobilised through their natural range of motion:

  • Creating better alignment, and a more stable foot structure
  • Joint range of motion will be increased
  • Arthritic and soft tissue restrictions will be broken down
  • Synovial fluid production in the joints improved
  • A reduction in muscle and tissue strain from being overused as a compensation mechanism

Where possible, FMT provides an alternative to orthotics, resulting in a larger range of footwear to choose from. FMT works with the body to restore correct alignment. The principle that the body works best when all of its components are in their correct position, is the foundation of FMT.

Joint displacement or subluxation occurs when the body is exposed to accident, injury or just poor biomechanics. The result can be pain, foot and leg disorders, knee, hip or back pain. FMT works on correcting displacement and subluxation.

dry needling

Dry Needling is the use of fine acupuncture needles to reduce pain through the stimulation of myofascial trigger points. Trigger points are irritable points in a muscle created by a thickened band or tight knot of muscle. These trigger points can be  painful when palpated and can refer pain to other regions of the body. Trigger points can also lead to a muscle not working as it should, and reducing the strength of its contraction.

Dry Needling is similar to acupuncture, however follows different theories and rationale to the traditional Chinese medicine.

Dry needling at trigger points has been shown to result in a reaction from the central nervous system, allowing the muscle to relax and producing pain relief. This reduction in pain, and improvement in muscle function,  enables joint mobilisation to be more effective and produce quicker and more efficient recovery.

Acupuncture needles are  very fine and as a result,  there is minimal to no pain felt when inserting the needles. There is often a “local twitch response” noted when needles are inserted into trigger point with a rapid contraction of the muscle and sometimes a brief “cramping” type sensation is felt.

accupuncture

Western Medical Acupuncture treats a range of chronic painful conditions. It involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific paints in the body. The needles are sterile and single use only. Because the needles are so fine, minimal pain or discomfort is felt.

Why do we use acupuncture?

  • To increase blood flow and enhance healing at the point of insertion
  • Produce an analgesic effect in the area being treated, and other parts of the body along the same channels
  • To produce a calming effect and improvement in overall wellbeing

Acupuncture is often used as a form of therapy to complement other treatment modalities we use. It is used as a form of treatment in common Podiatric conditions such as:

  • Chronic musculoskeletal pain
  • Acute sports injuries
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Loss of feeling, numbness and tightness in the foot or toes
  • Cold/hot or burning feet
  • Excessive sweating in the feet

low level laser therapy

Low Level Laser Therapy involves the use of laser/LED light to promote tissue healing at the cellular level, and to reduce pain. It works on the body`s cells, and aims to treat the underlying cause of pain, rather than just masking it. It has no side effects, is painless and non-invasive.

Low Level Laser relieves pain by blocking pain nerves and reduces inflammation around the area of pain. Treatment aims to improve blood flow, reduce inflammation, and restore cell function thus heal the body.

Low Level Laser is another therapy used to complement other treatment modalities we use. It is also used to treat a number of Podiatric conditions such as:

  • Arthritic and joint pain
  • Soft tissue injuries and pain
  • Acute sports injuries
  • Chronic painful conditions

Low Level Laser Therapy offers an alternative treatment modality to acupuncture and dry needling, for those that don`t like needles, or are needle phobic.

structured exercise plan

To supplement what is achieved through manual therapy treatment,  a Structured Exercise Program will be customised, to ensure you get optimum results.

The exercises are designed to achieve:

  • Stretching of soft tissue structures
  • Improve muscle strength of the foot and leg
  • Improve the stability of the foot structure
  • Improve balance and coordination
